Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! Would love to have a list of wonderful excuses for not blogging since November, but I don't. So, in the spirit of starting fresh, we are not looking backward but going forward.

I'm not a big New Year's Resolution type of person but the past couple of years I have followed along as Ali Edwards chose One Little Word to focus on during the year. This year I decided to pick a word of my own. I've been going back and forth between Clean and Organize but I think I've actually settled on Fit. Finding a place to fit all my stuff (or finding a way to fit it in the garbage bin!), continuing my work to get fit at the gym, finding time to fit in a little more fun and whimsy, and finding a way to fit in more time with family and friends. So my plan is to keep this word floating around me during the year and see what happens.

And to start the year off with a bang, I joined Sally in a little organizing challenge. She came across this website and the 21 Days to Getting Organized Challenge. I'm not sure I'll actually follow along with each challenge, but this first one seemed easy: Clean a junk drawer. I have plenty of those but I chose a drawer on our sideboard that never really had a purpose. We mostly only went in it to get gum.

Eek!!!

I took everything out sorted it into little piles. There was a ton of random screws, nuts and bolts and an inordinate amount of allen wrenches (thank you IKEA). And lots of felt pads to go under the furniture once we bring it all back up. I trashed some stuff, put other stuff away and made new homes for the rest.

Since I didn't think I would actually join this challenge, I didn't buy any organizing trays. I had a couple (actually, I think I have a couple more but no idea where they are!) but I still need one more in here to really get it organized. Then I can move a couple things from the junk drawer in the kitchen to here and my life will be complete. Well, at least this drawer will be.

I was so inspired I ended up cleaning out the next drawer too. It wasn't too bad; a couple chewed up dog toys that were beyond repair. So now I'm thinking I might just try to keep up on this challenge yet.

So Happy New Year everyone! Here's to a more organized and fit 2011!!

NICE! I had a lot of gum in my drawer, too. I transplanted it to the pantry (photo NOT available!). :)
