This was a short week for subbing as the Hillsboro School District had conferences on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, you can't get a sub for those! I subbed on Monday for half a day in a 5th grade class. They were doing so much testing that at one point during reading group there were only two kids in the class with me and a reading coach!
I spent Tuesday and Wednesday finishing a quilt top. I love seeing a quilt come together. I had a lot of fun with this one. I also ordered some fabric for another quilt I'm making for a friend. The fabric is from the Chirp! line of fabrics by Katie Hennigar. I can't wait to dive in to this new project. I also have started cutting out five more quilts. I'm hoping the coolness of the sewing room will encourage me to get them all finished this summer!
And speaking of quilting, I went to the quilt shop on Thursday and spent five hours quilting two quilts. I'm almost caught up! I think I have two more quilt tops that need to be quilted. I can't even tell you how much I love having a quilt shop with a long arm machine so close by. After quilting I tried to donate blood but my iron was just a smidge too low. This happens to me about every third or fourth time I donate. I need to remember to increase my iron intake for the few days prior but I always forget. Oh well.
Friday I spent outside in the glorious weather attacking our back lawn. It had gotten to the point where Charlie was almost hidden when he walked through the grass. So I grabbed the lawn mower and spent a couple of hours shaving it down. I'll have to attack the weeds next, but that'll wait until next week after the yard waste gets picked up. It was nice to spend the time outside, soaking up that vitamin D. I even managed to get a tiny bit of a sunburn on my arm. Now I know summer is coming!
Our good friend Steve was in town for an interview so he bunked with us Friday night. We took him to the fish house for dinner and then we wandered through Powell's for a bit. I couldn't help it, I bought Skippyjon Jones
We woke up nice and early on Saturday and went to the farmer's market with Steve and Kristine. It was nice to get there early before it got too crowded. We loaded up with more asparagus and leeks, spinach, zucchini, carrots and snap peas, and some strawberries. It's going to be a tasty week here at the Woolery house. Once we got home, Steve and Seann headed outside to replace another fence post. Pretty soon we'll have more replaced posts than original ones. This one was on the gate and very necessary. It looks a lot better. The other side of the gate is probably due soon too. Gotta love fence installers who use posts with rather large knots in them.
While Seann and Steve labored in the yard, I went scrapbooking with my friend Lauren. It had been almost a year since I'd seen her and we had so much fun catching up. I can't wait to do it again! Rumor has it that her scrapbook room rivals our sewing room so I'm pretty excited to see it.
All in all it was a great week. Today we're looking to get outside and go for a hike or head to the coast or otherwise get out and enjoy the Great Outdoors. Hopefully I'll be back with pictures!
